Pole Star Space Applications announced today that it plans to incorporate satellite Automatic Identification System (AIS) data provided by ORBCOMM Inc. (Nasdaq: ORBC) into its complete range of commercial maritime, Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) and fisheries management solutions.
Pole Star will introduce satellite AIS features progressively throughout its range of fleet management, ship security and vessel monitoring solutions. Pole Star will utilise ORBCOMM’s satellite AIS service, which transmits a ship’s identification, position and other critical data, to assist in ship tracking and maritime navigation and safety efforts.
Nick Salvi, VP North America at Pole Star, said: “The addition of ORBCOMM’s proven and reliable satellite-based AIS service will enhance our already strong value proposition and commitment to our customers by providing the most complete situational picture of worldwide vessel activity.”
“We are very pleased to welcome Pole Star to our growing list of solution providers,” said Marc Eisenberg, ORBCOMM’s chief executive officer. “Pole Star provides innovative maritime solutions that require a high standard of quality, performance and global coverage. ORBCOMM’s satellite AIS service meets this need with the most comprehensive coverage and the highest refresh rates of any satellite-based AIS system.”
